VPN and IPTV: when it helps and when it just slows you down

A VPN is not a general improvement. It is a tool against one specific thing: your ISP filtering the traffic. The test takes a minute — turn off Wi‑Fi on your phone and start the app on mobile data. If it works there but not at home, it is the ISP.

Running a VPN needlessly adds a hop that lowers speed and raises the risk of the very buffering you were trying to avoid. If you do use one, always pick a server in your own country.

When several devices need a VPN it is better to run it on the router than to install an app per TV. Many TV apps lack stable VPN support, and boxes such as MAG cannot run a VPN at all.
