Kodi with IPTV Simple Client
Short answer
Kodi is the media centre that plays IPTV through the IPTV Simple Client add-on. The most flexible option here, and the one that needs the most fiddling.

Install Kodi
Get Kodi from kodi.tv or your device's app store.

Enable the PVR add-on
Go to Add-ons, PVR clients and enable IPTV Simple Client.

Set the playlist
Choose M3U playlist via URL and paste the link from your provider.

Add EPG
Under EPG settings enter the XMLTV address and save.

Restart Kodi
Restart the program and the TV menu appears on the home screen.
Common errors in this app
The TV menu is missing
The PVR add-on is disabled, or Kodi was not restarted after setup.
Channels load slowly
Raise the cache size in advanced settings or use a cable.
No subtitles
Enable the subtitle stream during playback; not every channel embeds one.
